My name is Jackson Eberwein. I am a freshman majoring in Journalism and Media Production at Wayne State University. My educational goals are to graduate from Wayne State with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. I hope to be able to find an internship with some news organization in the Detroit area during my time here as well. For my professional goals, I’d like to become a photographic journalist. I’d like to focus on music journalism if possible, but the idea of doing some more important kind of investigative journalism is also extremely appealing. I have several experiences and qualifications that I believe make this path suitable for me. The most formative was joining my high school’s yearbook class during my freshman year. I remained in the until after my junior year, rising the ranks, and becoming head editor. While in this class, I learned everything I know about photography. From how the camera works and what settings to use when to the rule of thirds, anticipating shots, and limiting distractions, I gained much knowledge on the technical and stylistic aspects of photography. While in this class, I also learned a lot about journalism such as how to conduct interviews, write captions and copies, and designing and laying out a page. I also gained experience at covering a variety of topics including several different sports, types of events, and clubs. In addition to being in yearbook class, during my sophomore year of high school, I started working for TCS Inc., a local business specializing in sports photography. I still work there today and have used my time to hone my abilities and knowledge with a camera. While working there I have also gained a lot of experience with photo editing and laying out photos in collages and other styles.
